Why Choose Amara Style Mulberry Silk

Mulberry silk is of the finest quality silk available on the market today, it is 100% natural, odorless and hypoallergenic.

The silk is made from the silkworms of the Bombyx mori moth.  The moth are fed an exclusive diet of mulberry leaves and this is where the name 'mulberry silk' originates.  The resulting cocoons are spun into raw silk fibers, which are pure white in color.  As a result mulberry silk is more refined than any other type of silk.

Other types of silks can be less uniform in color and texture, with shorter strands. Products made from 100% Mulberry silk are more durable and luxurious.

A unique benefit of mulberry silk is that it helps reduce the possibility of allergic reactions due to it being 100% natural and has proven a better and safer choice for those who suffer from allergies.

How is Mulberry Silk weight measured?

Momme (pronounced moe-mie) is a Japanese form of weight measurement.  It is the standard unit that is used to measure silk weight and quality.  Very similar to a thread count, the higher the momme, the thicker and more durable the silk will be.

Amara Style silk products are 100% Mulberry Silk with a 22 momme weight.  This is of a higher quality and longer expected lifespan.

Caring for Mulberry Silk

  • Machine wash in cold water on a gentle/delicate cycle
  • Always wash like colours together and use a mesh garment bag to protect from catching on other fabrics
  • Use a delicate detergent as harsh detergents can start to break down the natural fibers of the silk.  Avoid using a fabric softener
  • We do not recommend you tumble dry silk
